Drag-based vertical axis wind turbine final assembly and test for Columbia University Mechanical Engineering undergrad design expo. Uses a drag-based Savonius 3-blade design and a casing to throttle air at higher velocity and achieve optimal placement.

  • So what is the DC output?  Or is this just another college lab theory model that has no been used for real life situation? I'm only asking these questions to maybe push you toward to further developement of your ideas. Nice job.

  • I had the exact same idea. These would be easy to implement in city areas with tubular tower structures.

  • @127rally I've seen such thing as well, it was a ship from Jacques cousteau. But not the Calypso. It was the research vessel Alcyone. It has two wind turbines driving the prop from the vessel. I was searching for it as well, and I have found it.

  • several years ago, i see a similar turbine mounted on a SHIP... is it possible?
