The Controversial End Of Game Call

The rules clearly state that a player who has stepped out of bounds must first establish both feet inbounds before touching the basketball. the ridgefield player clearly only places one foot in bounds before touching the basketball. HOWEVER; from where the ref was standing there were three players in his way. so there is no way he could have seen the ridgefield player step back inbounds, therefore the ref assumed the player did not establish both feet and was right however there is no way you make that call unless you are certain.

The real story here isn't the out of bounds call. There's room to disagree on that. The real story is that the ref assessed a technical foul on the player for bouncing the ball. There's no way the ref should have T'd a player with 1.8 seconds left in a one point game.

Take a good look at the video and take it as a given that the player did not swear or question the call (nobody says that he did). The T was assessed for bounding the ball and nothing else. Bad call.

correct, and had he actually said anything to the ref there would be grounds for the technical BUT he did not look at the ref, did not say anything to the ref, and did not do anything wrong. he pounded the ball and yelled at himself for doing that (stepping back in without establishing both feet.

and the ref was suspended as stated in another comment as well as being demoted to the jv and freshmen games.

The player should not have been called for out of bounds. No where in the NFHS rule or case book does it state you must have 2 feet established inbounds after going out of bounds to legally touch the ball. The 2 foot rule is an NBA rule.There are different rules in college and highschool. If you dont believe me check out section 4.35 of the NFHS '08/'09 case book for proof. You people need to remember the NBA rules only apply to NBA games.

Actually in the FCIAC which is the conference they play in, it is an established rule, AS long as he does not intentionally run out of bounds then come back in. since he was out of bounds and came back in without intentionlly running out of bounds he can touch the ball ONLY when he has established both feet in bounds

he did establish both feet inbounds his right foot was already in bounds and then he stepped forward with his left... there is no way to justify the call

it may look that way but if you watch it closely when the ball touches his hands his left foot is still not established it is a split second difference. so while i agree with you there is no way to justify the call DUE TO THE REFS POSITION. the call however was correct even when it should not have been called

I disagree if the ref doesn't blow this call the kid wouldn't have had any reaction since he would be passing the ball upcourt. My question is does this team play in the state playoffs? If so then there is a 99.9% chance they use NFHS rules which like I said b4 establishing 2 feet is not necessary and by the way the ref that made the call was the correct official to make the call however he made the wrong call.

Then they are not using NFHS rules which govern about 98% of all highschools in the country. Also I have never seen a conference have an established rule, it would have to be a state rule or unless that conference isn't apart of the NFHS or any other state organizationwhich has choose to not be in the NFHS.

that ref lost the game for ridgefield...and that ref got suspended for the next 5 games for next season
