Are you running 2 60's? I have the LTD EX-360. It has emg 81 n bridge and 60 at neck. Also, I have a jackson with the same combo. On the jackson I took the 85 out and gave it away, I don't like their tone. I love the 81, 60 combo. The 60 gets great clean tones and it's a ceramic magnet.

@lucusarts1 No I'm using an 81/60 combination. The 60 is an amazing pickup! I always intended doing a high gain demo of the 60, because is has more clarity than the 85. Unfortunately I've sold my ex400 :(

Only as a bridge pickup. EMG 81/85 is a setup that caters to high gain and heavy metal tones. The emg 60 sounds much better than an 85 for cleans, in my opinion, but as for obtaining that muddy psychodelic tone i don't think you'd benefit much from changing to an emg 60. You might be better off going for a passive pick up to be honest.

@jamjar1984 I thought the notes and runs sounded really good it was just some of the phrasing kinda clashed with the backing track. It's hard to get really good solo phrasing haha i've been there.
