Henry VIII's accession: 21st April 1509 - 500th anniversary

Today marks the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII's accession. Although on this date Henry VII died thus his son officially succeeded, the death of the former king and Henry VIII's accession was kept secret till the 23rd April. That date marked the time when the young new monarch issued a general pardon, a standard action the monarch took upon his accession. It therefore became public knowledge that there was a new king.
