The problem of the sixth replicant as bugged si-fi watchers for some time this hangs on one statement in the film, Decker and Bryant are in the briefing room watching the identity photos of the replicants, Decker is told by Captain Bryant that six replicants landed on earth and that 'one' was fried (ie killed) trying to get into the Tyrell corporation. A remastered version 1982/2007 was shown on BBC2 Saturday 19th December 2009, In this version Bryant tells Decker crucially that 'two' replicants were fried (ie killed) trying to get into the Tyrell corporation.
Is this final directors cut Scott finally putting it right for posterity.

  • There were three female and three male replicants in the origonal script the third female was cut before shooting started.

  • in the original version of the film only one died leaving 5 still running around giving rise to the speculation that Decker was the 5th replicant.

  • The problem of the fifth replicant is solved, expand the info box above right for full details about this clip.

  • when deckard gets his ass kicked by the nexus 6s, its mostly by surprise. if they wrote the movie with moments of deckard displaying replicant strength, the idea that he's a replicant would've been too obvious

  • Well I knew Deckard was a replicant from the first time watching, as I notice that eye-lense flare effect that only replicants exhibited. However, I always assumed by how Bryant and Eddie Olmos' characters reacted to Deckard that they both knew Deckard was a special replicant Blade Runner they hire for tough jobs. Bryant occasionally gave Deckard weirld looks at Deckard when he scoffed at other replicants. Which makes a bit more sense in the scene where Eddie says his line at the end.

  • @electricmobile But all the entire point of the story that Decker did not knew he was a replicant, that is why Gaff left that Unicorn in his apartment to make him realize.

Meaning that Decker isn't the 5th replicant.

  • Deckard was originally a replicant in original scripts. I remember watching the movie as a kid and picking up that the replicants eyes all glowed at certain times--kinda of a purplish glow.

You can catch Deckard's eyes glowing. It was a script in transition. They even completely changed the ending. So changing whether or not he was a replicant was easy as well. But they wanted him to be at the beginning.

Odd, Harrison Ford commented once that HE thought the character was a replicant.

  • Yeah I always wondered about the missing replicant. Never for a moment considered Deckard could be one of them, because Bryant clearly states in this scene that all 6 escaped from the off world colony. I think he would have remembered doing that. I don't buy the "Deckard as replicant" theory. Implanted unicorn dreams make no sense; they have no relevance to human memories. It's meant to symbolize something else. & he's clearly physically out matched by all of the replicants

  • In the Final Cut DVD Bryant tells Deckard that 2 were fried trying to get into Tyrell Corp: was a correction by Ripley for film clarity But in Deckard's flat after Rachael had shot Leon saving his life Deckard tells Rachael 'he won't come after her, but someone will' He then walks behind her his eyes glow red Maybe he's like Rachael a Special model but being designed to hunt his kind Replicants Was he was starting to suspect with the unicorn dream ? Why was he already quit from the Police Force?

  • The Deckard dream of the unicorn and the origami unicorn Gaff left was to tell Deckard he's a replicant.

    Deckard is a replicant!

  • yes - Deckard is supposed to be a replicant - or you're supposed to expect it at least. There are TONS of hints throughout - the 'unicorn dream' that Gaffe knew about - when his eyes 'go all replicant' in the scene with Rachael after she rescues him at his apartment (the sink scene), the fact that he's the only one who seems to be able to go toe-to-toe with the Nexus 6s physically and not die... etc etc

  • @yoogoh

actually Ridley played it both ways give strong on hints on each side.

Their isn't one definitive answer for this question, Is Deackard a Replicant or Human?

    Their are 2.
