This video describes the method of disabling the height-sensor on the rear suspension of a BMW E34 M5, this eliminating the "SUSPN LEVELING" check control warning message. This method may also work on the E32 7 series equipped with Self Leveling Rear Suspension (SLS).

Removing the SLS suspension on the E34 M5 is a very common practice, the damper units tend to leak after 100,000kms (often less), and are very expensive to replace. The entire SLS rear suspension layout can be replaced with quality springs and dampers for the cost of a single SLS damper.

  • Hi, thanks for that video,

Shot in the dark, could this method be used on a 2002 e53 X5?

Suspension looks and feels fine just can't get rid of the "Self Level Susp Inactive" message.

Thanks for any help you can give

  • @printltd Sorry mate, but i don't know anything about the E53, so I really don't know if it would work or not. It's worth putting it up on the hoist though and having a look to see if the height sensor is there or not. Sorry I couldnt be of more help
