  • What is the prescribed range to fire at before breaking off? Couldn't tell from the video.

  • @Graywolf116 Depends how much time you have to setup (closing speeds, angle of attack, and so forth) but do not be afraid to fire as far as 1.5km (1500m) because the high rate of closure in head-on engagements means that you are actually well within range at that distance and if you wait for more "confidence" in the shot you will be too close and either blown away or collided with. Better to take a lower probability shot from further away that you have time to set up (if accurate, it blinds too)

  • Curious. You know how you can select the range of center target on guns? Or at least that's what I think it is. Wouldn't that matter as well?

  • @elwoz Never been a worse time to come back! Rampant shoulder shooting, kill stealing, team killing, non stop childish potty mouths and insults in 10 different languages, and that's before you finish your first sortie! Administration doesn't care so I gave up. I used to get angry, but I've decided to just fill the server with churlish chatter and nonsense, pretend I'm a newbie, type the lyrics to 80s pop songs in the chat bar, ask random people to marry me... you know... watch Rome burn. :-)

  • @BigSilverHotdog Sadly not :(. Through the years I've installed and then uninstalled IL2 several times on gaming rage episodes, deleting all the ntracks in the process...

Last time I also broke my joystick so I've been out of IL2 for almost a year.

God I miss flying on Skies of Valor!

  • @elwoz If you got a track of it post a video response, I'd like to see it.

  • @BigSilverHotdog The reason I specificaly mentioned the gladiator is because it's the only plane you can pull the tactic I was trying to describe without fearing a collision. It's nimble enough to stay constantly clear of the collision course on a head-on and have so much rudder authority that at the right time you can use full rudder to sideslip and riddle you enemy side with bullets without changing course.Almost never closer than 100meters on the horizontal plane. But yes closer than your video

  • @elwoz That is a suicidal move, and exactly the opposite of this tutorial. Turning into the enemy to shoot at the last second is what results in collisions.

  • @elwoz (ran out of characters)

I dont recall any spitfire pilot trying to turn fight my gladiator, usually they would climb away and prepare their next pass.

La7s on the other hand are a completely different history ;)

  • @BigSilverHotdog It was many years ago on an open cockpit server but otherwise full real settings.

Yup used the wrong wording on my coment, let my clarify:

Whenever I saw an enemy coming at me from the distance I would turn to them and try to keep them at my 2 o'clock to mess with their gunnery then at the last second use full rudder and shoot. Most of the times that single pass was all that was needed to kill either their engines or the pilot, even with only 4 x .30 MGs.
