I think that we all should remember that the operator tried to stop that train by placing it in emergency but that the computer had it going too fast and too close.She died doing her duty,and my heart and the hearts of my colleagues go out to her family.She did our profession proud

To ALL DC Metro employees, if nothing else we here in the Capitol District have a greater respect and appreciation for ALL you do for us as customers and residents here. We grieve "with" you for the loss of lives. I've been riding Metro for the past 16 years and have always marveled at the cleanliness of the system and the "professionalism" of all the employees we meet. You are ALL in my family's prayers during your hour of grief. {{{hugz}}}

i was in the District of Corruption yesterday, i was on the red line with my friend and his uncle, while riding, his uncle told me about this, that was strange, i was just waiting to hurry up and get off

You're welcome. However, I'm not sure what kind of fail safe system is used by the Washington metro to prevent trains from running red signals. We did learn that the driver was not operating her phone.

You're so right! Thanks!

First off i would like to say my prayers are with all of the families affected by this tragedy. this hits very close to home for me because i myself am a train operator. there is alot of responsibilities that com along with this job. you have to be very alert at all times and not only are you putting your life on the line every day, you are also reponsible for your co-workers and the hundreds of people that not only trust you to get them to work on time every day, but to also get there safely.

maybe you should pay more attention where you're going, you're sitting in the back of the train you dont know weather you on a bend or straight tracks

The thing is, many other systems use the same technology to control trains...
This was a machinery failure that caused this. (Without getting too technical or revealing stuff that's still under investigation.)
It could happen on another rail system. This coverage will bring together experts from many other systems as well as outside engineers...
It will also wake up the local governments. D.C just spent $50 million that was supposed to go to Metro. I guess something else was more important.

I think that we owe thanks to KINGLaPret for compiling and posting this tribute.You did a really great job.
