The Vikings used a Eugenics program similar to the ancient Spartans (see 300), but with more emphasis on physical strength.
Not only were the weak culled in inner culture competitive battles, but also the strongest men were given more wives as they had polygamy like many ancient cultures did.
The result of both practices slowly ebbed over the centuries, as modern random mate selection reduces that over time.
Once in a while those results still shows up in strongman contests.

Man, Can you imagine if Svend And Magnus had born like 700 years ago, in the Viking Army? They would destry all the enemys using they're hands!

You obviously have no clue just how much hard work, dedication, and brute force it takes to win worlds strongest man even once. Any winner, even of one year, is a strength legend. Plain and simple.
