@lukedavis68 I truely couldn't agree with you more about our politicians being emotionally stunted and ill educated. In my mind their all greedy and power hungry, only passing laws that help lobbyists and their paychecks. And now that they are taking away more and more of our rights to assemble or point out their flaws, we are less able to improve upon our system. I like a system where anyone can be president, but it should be upheld that they are well educated and fair to the people.

You're saying that literacy rates in the states are 99%? I made no comparison to literacy rates, just said ours in the UK are high.
And I find it hard to believe literacy rates in America being 99%.
-
@lukedavis68 Comedy gold! Wait... you are being sarcastic, right? Literacy rates are the same in the States (99%) and going back beyond the seventies, of all the leaders in either country, only the UK has any who did not have a degree (John Major & James Callaghan).

@ACE21813 Just like in England and Britain, we also have selfish politicians, the only difference is that we are smaller and can regulate with more ease. Our literacy rates are high and many go to university, or at least have the chance to.
In the States, from my understanding, your politicians are ill educated, emotionally stunted folk. And that is your problem, anybody can be President, where in England we have professional politicians who studied for their job.

I know that we have a low tax rate, it helps me to afford things I need for my personal life, like gas for my car for instance. And I do agree that there are great things we can do with our tax money. But the government simply doesn't do these things. For instance our roads that are falling apart, or our schools that continue to pump out worse and worse educated kids, or our parks that continue to get worse. Thing is we could do a lot with it, but the gov doesn't do a good job

@pjkwik OK, but something does not quite add up.
If you are now earning the same as you got in 2008, that means
you had to have an increase after that date in order for them to
decrease it down to that level. If you got a 10% raise during that
time frame, during which the recession was well under way, that
means something was very wrong.
With respect, the wages at 2008 levels might still be too high for
the current realities.

Cute, but ultimately not the entire conversation.
The questions to ask is where did the money that originally going to the library go?
In many cases the "right" thing to do would be to get the unionized city workers to
give something back rather than burden the residents with additional taxes.
Unfortunately most taxes don't go to support things most of want, like libraries, and
so they threaten those first to get us to cough up the money..
