This is a brief demo of the Insignia NS-HD01 FM Portable HD Radio that costs under $50.
Since I had to connect the sound directly to the recorder without a headphone, the reception is somewhat weaker than you would get with headphones. To keep this demo short, I set the radio to scan for HD stations only. Not shown here are the analog FM stations displaying RBDS text it can also receive.
When a station is first received, it is in mono, then stereo then HD. When the "HD)" symbol is blinking, it is receiving in analog (stereo). When the "HD)" symbol is solid, it has locked on to the HD signal. At that time you may hear the sound volume, quality and/or delay change as it switched to HD. After this there is no delay switch to an HD-2 or HD-3 program.
Interesting HD-2 programs are KLUV Oldies, KMVK Smooth Jazz.
KRLD similcasts their AM radio news program on HD-2 and sports on HD-3.

I found this to be an excellent receiver. You must use headphones with it. Also excellent sensitivity and selectivity. Go for this one. Also there are no commercials, just the required FCC hourly station ID's.

Which part of the Dallas/Fort Worth area you live in? I live about 60 miles NW of Dallas, southwest of Decatur.
