It's true that "pagan" religions worshipped nature (and studied it carefully). The Zodiac is the old calendar (pre-Roman Christianity) but it's just basic math. 360 divided by 12 = 30 days (one month). As you probably know, there are 12 lunar cycles in one (solar) year. Egypt long ago recognized that the stars "fall back" one degree of the circle in 72 years.

Ancient cultures built large buildings aligned with the stars. However, it was soon noticed that the "fixed" stars fell back 1 degree (sometimes called a generation) every 72 years. The 12 ages of the Zodiac add up to 25,920 years and each age lasts for 2,160 years or 30 generations.
