  • Whereas I agree with Chomsky, that the biggest driving force for, and against, the idea of government paid healthcare is corporations, the reason that should stand against it above all is that nationally we are a republic, not a democracy! Furthermore, the republic is (supposed to be) under the guard of a constitution that gives absolutely no allowance for such a system.

I don't think Chomsky's a fool, but instead, he's doing that which he denounces, and is omitting facts to manipulate others.

  • They should have a debate between chomsky and Sowell and call it the "clash of titans"

  • @TheOtherView Oh, thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering.

  • @HoustonKJ

He's dated. The most recent polls show what the majority of Americans are NOT in favor of a single payer system.

I lived in Montreal for 13 years. I HATED the system. The system in the states is not perfect but it's better than what they have north of the border.

  • @FreeMarketLibertaria So? That's a damn good question. Why shouldn't they have? The position the german people were in was not exactly enviable. Grasping for control, the propaganda of Hitler was sewn in fertile ground.

But I don't think that fairly characterizes the debate over healthcare in the US, since the debate is essentially a tug of war between(some) industry and government for control. I think that using the Gov't to shield the public from Corporate insanity is reasonable here.

  • @FreeMarketLibertaria Your comment amounts to "Why should the people be allowed to exercise their democratic right to influence government?".

You're a bigoted simpleton who doesn't grasp the physical realities of the world in which we live. If Americans have to consider themselves "Superior" to use the resources available to the power system they are supposed to have a say in, what the fuck do you think of Canadians, who've already done it?

  • Chomsky rules! I love this guy!
