Windows XP vs Ubuntu 8

Here's a PC speed test between Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.10, using a 2007 Celeron M 530 notebook (for Win XP) and a 2002 Pentium 4 desktop (for Ubuntu 8). It was a battle between a 1-year-old laptop and a 7-year-old dusty desktop PC with a failing hard drive.
I hope the old lad would still remain useful, so I've installed the latest Ubuntu desktop OS (8.10) a couple of weeks ago, as a backup OS, in case Win XP fails on the desktop. Ubuntu runs faster on the desktop than the Win XP OS, even if XP was updated to Service pack 3.
