@MR1970md have you ever tryed to rotate the rear wheel of a freelander against the transmision? it is next to impossible to move by hand it takes less than a 1/4 turn of slip before it is compleatly impossible to move. the revs are brought up in order to make the traction control work effectivly.
Nice car, and great action at the end. Glad you got over it! I like the euro diesel model. Could dedicated snow tires help maybe? (Not M&S). People report a big difference driving on the freeway, don't know about off-road though, perhaps in deep snow AT off-road are effective also.

You have got to rev the freelander hard to promote wheel spin so the viscous coupling works producing drive to all four wheels
