Geraldine Farrar canta "Les tringles des sistres tintaient" de Carmen de Bizet. Las imágenes son de la película de Cecil B. DeMille, Carmen (1915), en la que Farrar interpreta el papel de la gitana.
Please, folks, have a bit of perspective. Farrar had a considerable band of fan-atics at the time this was filmed -- much as Callas would have some 30 years later. Both of them were that rarity, singers who could also act. (I wish there was a film of her doing Wolf-Ferrari's light operas; but we do have the recordings.) Thanks for posting this!
@grenadian11 I'm a singer and performing is very important to me. Classical singers should have a great technique yes, but also great performing skills. This is a really old movie though, I don't think people payed much attention to the dancing part back in the day. It certainly doesn't work that way now. If you don't dance and there's a choreography team, let them do the job. You're right if you're trying to tell me to watch this video from a XX century perspective. Farra was great, no doubt.
I wish, there would be a movie of her MET-performance as Goosegirl in Humperdinck's "Königskinder". In the 1920s, Elsa Oehme-Förster, who created the role of the Broomstickmaker's daughter in the premiere Königskinder-Produduction at the MEt, was often compared to Geraldine. I suppose, she learned a lot by this great artist. When You hear old recordings, they even sound similar.
