Grandmasterscotty - ur perception of a mayor is the stereotypical one wearing those fat gold chains and sittin at his desk all day. as far as im concerned - as long as the man does his job (ie. gettin results, who cares if he missed a few council meetings), it is perfectly fine for him to come out to support events etc. u can't deny that he has improved the morale and perception of melbourne dramatically as a whole.

GrandMasterScotty give me a break. Are you going to deny that Melbourne Council has had the lowest rate increases, a higher international profile ever since John So came into power? Are you going to deny that he transformed a number of laneways into trendy hang-out spots bustling with people? Are you going to deny that investment is bustling with BHP and ANZ retaining their HQs in Melbourne?

And people want real people making the decisions not a totally rational, analytical or zero tolerance approach who doesn't understand that life is about having fun, helping other people, and constantly improving yourself in order to really live and i think that what he's about. Mind you I could be wrong but 10 seconds of judging someone you often have a better judgment of them than in 10 years.

Okay but it is hard for me to think of a better man for the job that cares and tries as hard as he does even if he does get the attention of people through gimmicky ways. Okay for one he gives dancing a go and you know he loves music. So (mind the pun) he has a soul.

And lastly, just a little comment on what you said about "Australia (having) alot going for it" - I know Australia has alot going for it. This country is the greatest country in the world, the most successful democracy, run by a fantastic man, John Howard. Don't think for one second that just because I don't like John So, I don't like Australia as a whole. I am a fervently patriotic person; I love this country and I love the Liberal Party. But John So has got to go (see? I can rhyme too)

So maybe if he'd just do what every other mayor of this city has done before him - that is, his JOB without trying to become some kind of cartoon character gimmick whose more concerned with his own popularity than he is with his responsibilities, THEN I might not mind him so much.

Mate, I would have no problem whatsoever with John So if he would just do what he was supposed to do - that is, knuckle down, attend a couple of council meetings, make some decisions, and perhaps most importantly in this case, DO NOT BE A SHOW PONY. Politics isn't about who can be on the most 'Woman's Day' covers, or who can be surrounded by the most models. People don't love John So because he's a good mayor; they love him because he's a gimmick.

Whats your problem then? He is a legend... well name a better candidate for the role. You should then be able to see that Australia has a lot going for it including John So. You should be smarter than that.

Haven't travelled? Are you serious? For starters, I've been absolutely everywhere within Australia, and a few months ago I went over to Europe and went into Rome, Paris, London, Whales, and all around the English country side. I've travelled almost every single holidays of my entire life!
