The tormented hero must contend with the death of his father, the king, and the recent marriage of his mother (Glenn Close), to his treacherous uncle. Ian Holm plays Polonius, his trusted advisor, while Helena Bonham Carter is Ophelia, the young woman who loves him, in spite of his melancholy. Much of the movie is shot outside, in beautiful landscapes. Directed by Franco Zeffirelli. Categories: Drama, Romance. Year: 1990.

  • @Hyman74Roth Mel Gibson was good, but no version captured Hamlet better than Kenneth did. He's had the most experience, so he knew exactly what he was doing. I'd say watch the Gibson film anyway, because it's interesting to see what the actors/directors can bring to the screen. There's also The Royal Shakespeare Company's version with David Tennant that was satisfactory (still can't beat Branagh), and I want to see Jude Law's Broadway portrayal.

  • @smileyface1510 Yeah well it's going to be slightly hard to understand because they talk in old English from Europe, and this movie is supposed to be for an older audience

  • The version of Kenneth is good, but so pretentious...This version is better, Gibson was great playing Hamlet.
