awesome video...too bad Chris had already left...new drummer is good but trying too much be like Moon and it doesn't always work with Searchers' tunes lol
It's so refreshing to see them play. I don't want to underestimate them, since they really deserve to be up there, with The Beatles - if we were to talk about the best of Merseybeat. And haven't they filled the criterion enough to be inducted in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame yet? Stewart, what in blazes are you doing? These boys are great!
@mndandy What do you think of the line ups of the current Searchers? I need to check out P&B music, I can see that! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. And about that squeak -- I'm sure you know there various mixes of Needles. Is it possible to remove such a sound during re-mixing? I need you to point it to me here on YT, as I would actually get a kick out of hearing it! :-) I really need you to become a friend and subscriber! :-)
@mndandy I just listened to P&B doing Have You Ever -- fantastic!! I was very annoyed that Chris didn't have opportunity to play on the Searchers version, as I am sure he was, as well! So it was Hatch that quieted the drums on CC?!! That is astonishing. I'm a fan of the sound of the drums -- they punctuate the music, and that's how I became a fan of The Searchers -- Chris had wonderful drum rolls throughout Needles (the first Searchers song I ever heard)!
@ChrisCurtisFan Another unusual side note is The Searchers version of "Have You Ever Loved Somebody" featuring Johnny Blunt on drums (I think) is another Hatch production with tiny, tinny drums (does indeed sound like a rat scurrying across the skins- good drumming, crap production!) Juxtapose that to the concurrent P&B Ryan cover version produced by none other than Chris Curtis. Forceful, up front drums possibly besting The Hollies original version. Crazy!
@ChrisCurtisFan Truce! My original grumble I posted two years ago was regarding the fact that the drums on the early Searchers stuff were always mixed so quietly, Which is Tony Hatch's doing, not CC's. Chris utilised huge drum sounds on his productions for Paul & Barry Ryan (check out "Love You Don't Know What It Means") and "Snakes And Snails" by Alma Cogan. Very ballsy indeed.
@mndandy Being a Chris Curtis fan requires a sense of humor. I consider it my best trait. You will have to forgive me for not reading Dave Davies, Bill Wyman and Ritchie Blackmore. I will take your word they have stories to share. Good or bad, doesn't matter. I have done extensive research on Chris; enough that I know he was a character. I take him for what he was worth (pardon the pun). Thank you for posting positive! :-) Truce, please!?
