http://www.filmbaby.com/films/4995 I was in the water filming dolphins 15 miles offshore Bermuda when a humpback whale swam under me. It was the beginning of a two hour close encounter that for the most part was very peaceful until another whale kept trying to get close to me as well. The encounter was entirely on the whale's terms, the engine was off on the boat at all times. It was only when another boat started circling us that he finally left. This whale was so friendly we thought we'd have no problem matching his flukes on the North Atlantic humpback whale identification catalogue. There was no match, however the other whale I did match with a photograph taken by Hal Whitehead 30 years ago in Newfoundland and never identified again until this encounter.

  • Very powerful stuff. I can't help but wonder how anyone could possibly think of harming these gorgeous creatures.....No more Japanese imports until they stop the killing!

  • That's why I put this video up there. How can we kill such creatures, and how can we stand by and let the Japanese, and Norwegians do this? I'm sure if Toyota sales went down 1% because kids refused to sit in Japanese cars, the whaling would be over immediately. Perhaps if kids lead an international boycott on one of Japan's leading exports like Toyota, the Japanese wouldn't perceive it as neo-colonial imperialism.

  • WOW!! Absolutely Amazing!! I think He was trying to communicate with you at times. When You kicked Your fins in the water He did it after, like He was mimicking You. :) Wish I was there! Thanks for sharing this jem. 12*s!!

We all need to protect these magnificent creatures fiercely and put an end to bloody whaling forever, before it's too late.

  • they say the whale and other aquatic mammals share much in the ways of intellectual capability with humans, a similar curiosity can certainly be gathered, however who knows how much we have in common? and who knows what the next 50 years will have in store for aquatic interaction? great video, tks. peace.
