Manodharma Sangeetham Tanam & Niraval - http://www.kalakendra.com/shopping/manodharma-sangeetham-tanam-niraval-p-881....
The hallmark of Carnatic Classical music is Manodharma Sangeetham, which is improvisation of music. It is the most unique and spectacular feature of Indian music. The true challenge of a musician lies in his ability to create and extemporize on the spot, within the framework of codified principles. Manodharma Sangeetham comprises of Raga Alapana, Tanam, Niraval and Kalpana Swaram. Tanam, which is also called Madhyamakalam is a very lively and interesting aspect of Manodharma Sangeetham. There is no specific time measure, but an inherent rhythm prevails. It is usually rendered just before the Pallavi (Ragam Tanam Pallavi or RTP) in a concert. Niraval is a series of improvisations made in a musical theme or sahithya. It is done in kritis as well as for a Pallavi (RTP). Niraval is a judicious combination of all the aspects of Manodharma Sangeetham put into one. This makes it one of the most difficult aspects of creative music. Tanam and Niraval require years of practice, listening and guidance under an excellent Guru before one can aim to perform them in concerts.
This product has the maestro explaining and demonstrating a systematic approach to Tanam and Niraval, the techniques, the dos and the donts that a student must know, while attempting them. He has elucidated Niraval in different talas like Adi, Rupakam and Misra Chapu. His explanations are lucid and logical, making it simple and easy to learn. A highly informative and valuable product for upcoming musicians.
