This song is an entry to the Promotion Notion contest by Sarah Rees Brennan for the last book in her Demon's trilogy, The Demon's Surrender.

I always thought it was incredibly special the way that all the main characters of the book grew to trust and accept Nick. With normal people, it's instinctual and natural to believe that they value other people, that they have morals, and that they understand the social contract. With Nick, you can't assume any of that. Alan, Jamie, and Mae have all seen the supernatural violence that Nick is capable of, but they still actively and voluntarily decided to trust him anyway. I think it makes all the difference in the world for their relationships, this choice to love even when it could prove dangerous, and that's what this song is about.

Its so sad that these books aren't more well know. They take pride of place in my library and yet when i ask friends if they've read the new one they didn't even know there was a first one. I know supernatural isn't everyones cup of tea but talent deserves to be recognised

This is such a touching song, I got all misty eyed. You're right about everyone's relationships with Nik. I think that was one of the best things about the book, how everyone is able to care so deeply for eachother (and how Nick cares about them)
