If you wanna sit on your board like you see alot of people on surfboards do is sit in the center of the board with to legs over each side if your new then just lay on your board and watch the swell if you arnt all then confident with catching a wave try to watch the swell for a bit and see if your local brake is a left handed break or a right once you know what it is just sit in the water on a slight angle to the side the wave is running this will help you take off just a little easier and help
