As an object in a hardware store a 2x4 may seem mundane. Billie Faircloth, however, reveals the significance of this basic construction supply's creation and use, illustrating the complexity of architectural design.

As a researcher for sustainable architecture at KieranTimberlake, Billie Faircloth and her colleagues created many innovative designs including the first actively ventilated curtain wall at the University of Pennsylvania, an energy-generating building envelope, and a Cellophane House displayed at the Museum of Modern Art.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxPhilly, where x = independently organized TED event.

At our TEDxPhilly event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
