YEEEEEEE HAAAAAAA .

I'm very much into traditional country from the 1930s - 1968. This is good old fashioned Texas swing. Hank Thompson did this song back in the late 1950s and Leon actually has more of a country twang in his voice than Thompson did so it sound excellent to me.

@ThePoboyms61s Sorry, but as any good Leon fan knows, his real name is Claude Russell Bridges.

@MrMusicismagic You are welcome! Listening to Leon singing "Over the Rainbow" is one of life's great joys and watching him makes life worthwhile!

I like this version better than Hank Thompson's! Ol Leon just does it up on this one. And the musicians that backed him up are great! I love this steel man, who ever he is! LOL

Leon did a country album "Hank Wilson's Back" which included covers by Hank Williams and Hank Thompson (thus "Wilson"). It's a nice album.

@MrMusicismagic I just came across this great selection on Youtube. By now I'm sure you MUST know (but just in case you don't), you can find "Over the Rainbow" on "Leon Russell and New Grass Revival" CD, with the performance on the DVD. Check it out. It's Leon. You'll love it.

@yankeeG ... I'm sure some of the country "purists" would disagree, I do not ... when I was a young "rocker" and already a little bit interested in country ... this CD, John Fogerty's Blue Ridge Rangers and Neil Young doing a few country "covers" (Oh Lonesome Me comes to mind) ... I remember thinking to myself, hmmm ... there's something here after all ... thanks for the input !
