Als jahrzehntelanger Chorleiter habe ich dieses Lied selbst oft dirigiert. Es erschien mir immer so, als wäre es ein neues Lied. Von den Cambridge-Singers scheint dies die kaum zu toppende Version zu sein. Ich kenne die Interpretationen von vielen anderen Chören und erlaube mir deshalb diese Wertung.

Zum Weinen schön komponiert...dazu diese sehr gefühlvolle und musikalisch sehr gelungene Einspielung. Ein Genuss!

@Icyveins906 It's quite clearly the Cambridge Singers - the acoustic is the same, the time of recording is the same (albeit this one stops at 03:19, whilst there is ambient noise on the original, the singing stops at 03:19), and the vocal timbre and dynamics are the same. It's easily identifiable from the fact that it's the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral, the soprano timbre, the gutsy "Bl" of Bleib in the opening alto part (followed by the exact same shading of vibrato). It is the same recording.

@JJHFram This recording was actually done in Germany. Not Cambridge singers but heck if I could remember how to spell the groups name. Beautiful recording though.

From the acoustic I'd guess it was the Cambridge Singers in the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral. They're brilliant - it's taken from an album titled "Lighten our Darkness", and every track is beautiful. Even contains the service of Compline!

Dank meinem lieben verstorbenen Onkel wurde dieses schöne Chorwerk wieder entdeckt. Ich selber hab dieses Werk von J. G. Rheinberger schon viele Male gesungen und hatte auch schon an einem Abend unter freiem Himmel einen sehr rührender Moment erlebt. Möge nun mein Onkel und Rheinberger seine letzte Ruhe finden.
