Despite the claim in the subtitle of his book, A Bound Man: Why We Are Excited About Obama and Why He Can't Win, Shelby Steele acknowledged that he thinks Sen. Barack Obama "can definitely win" the presidential election. Steele told Fox News' Sean Hannity the subtitle was an "afterthought" that he "regret[ted]" and that it did not represent the book's thesis.

  • @dutytocareforothers Aparently your stupidity is evident. So I guess ALL black people must be liberal, all must have the same viewpoint?

Blackman hates his race because he's conservatove hmmm! Wonder what you'd say about Africans who kill each other in civil wars on that continent. Are they any LESS African? Divided by tribes and killing each other? Than could be called "balck self hate."

But I think the dumb bit in your suggestion is that 40 million people will all think the same.

  • @johnlorican Are you white? If so why are you reading books on black people? You should be concerned with yourself. Forget about minority groups. Focus on yourself.

  • @johnlorican He is half white. He apparently doesn't like the half black side of himself.

  • uncle tom

  • No need to apologize junior, and I'm sorry you think our discussion was a waste of time, I've always thought no discussion is a waste of time regardless how crass the nature of "your" post, I learned something and believe it or not my thinking was very close to yours years ago, but I'm glad to say today> I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now, Take Care.

  • Oh yeah, you're right! Shelby was the minister of propaganda for the Black Panther Party in Oakland, CA,Ha, ha,ha, I repeat to you junior, you and your 48 yrs aren't enough, find a dictionary and look up the word analytical and apply the word thinker, you my young friend need to travel more, meet others who are the complete opposite of you politically and engage them in discussion, and read books written by authors you don't agree with, until then junior find a mint to remove the smell of milk.

  • I apologize, greenmean1.

I assumed that you were a person that wanted to be taken seriously. I had hoped for the best - in spite of the crass nature of your posts.

I was wrong. I realize now that I'm wasting my time.

You won't be hearing from me again.

    Have a good life!

  • Again I say my dear Dr. johnlorican, WHAT? where do you find your facts, do ask yourself are the same statistics that say black teens or people of color are more likely to receive incarceration for the same crimes White's will get probation for are correct? also the STD statistic's you mention, if I'm correct and I believe I am are for D.C., Washington the district of colombia, but your stupidity does not surprise me junior, anyone can make anything fit their agenda and that includes chimps.

  • Well, since I've been on the planet for 48 years, I HAVE done some living. I DO know what works and what doesn't.

When I see the incredible incarceration among blacks, the 70% out-of-wedlock rate among blacks (which was about 10% as late as the 1940's - LESS than that of whites), the fact that 50% of all black female teenagers have an STD - yet black America CONTINUES to look to the government for its leadership - then I know that intellectuals like Steele will strike a chord - if heard.

  • Why do liberally-minded people view conservative blacks as 'self-loathing?'

Mr. Steele, who grew up during the segregation of the 1950's, who adopted the 'black power' pose of the early 1970's, who favored liberal politics through the 1980's, basically saw the damage and estruction that those worldviews inflicted upon black America.

Consequently, he began to think for himself and came to his own conclusions about life - and what works.....the exact opposite of 'self-loathing.'
