@hassledguy They may have crossed paths but only briefly. Basie played the New Orleans Auditorium a couple of times....I think. He may have also played the Dew Drop Inn too. But I'd have to say there is definitely an influence. Same went for Lloyd Prices Orchestra (yes, he had one too!). I mean, how could you NOT be influenced by Basie?

I doubt I am the first to notice this, but Dave really seemed to have picked up a lot from Basie. As far as I know they never crossed paths, but Dave easily could have played trumpet and done arrangements for them.
