This second rendition of Ralph Hermann's "Clarinet on the Town" by the Delta Concert Band featuring Phil Warren on solo clarinet was recorded July 21. 2009 at Sunshine Hills Park in Delta, B.C.
Hi Person who will be performing Clar on the town. I hope the judges aren't "note literalists" since I did a bit of improv on the blues section and most others play it straight, which I find boring and stilited. Good luck and knock them out. Let me know how it goes.
I, Phil, discovered 2 earlier recordings of my performances: 1983 Oct 18 at McGee Secondary in Vancouver, the speed was 132 beats per min or a bit more and seemed rushed. The second was 1984 Nov 6 and the speed was about 120 or a bit more. I currently perform between 116 and 120. This feels about right. I have increased my improve license with the blues section, not being held captive by the tyranny of the notes (a classically training trap): "play the music & not just the notes."
Excellent. I have been given the task to play this for the volunteer band i play for here in Gibraltar. I is great to hear it being played to such an excellent standard. I have a lot of work ahead of me!
Hi Phil this is great im really enjoying this. I like the sound in this outdoors concert even better then the first. . Good on you mate!! It is so many years since i heard you play what a treat! Paul C.Victoria
