but he also created the characters
so can you really truly despise him?
Plus, the story required someone to die if they were to have the impact they desired
gwen wouldn't hit close enough to home.

just watching this has made me realise how much I love John Barrowman. When everyone is ganging up on Russel, he sticks up for him and reminds us all that RTD did write an amazing series for us. And yes, Ianto died (still cry whenever I watch that scene) but to be honest, we all knew that he would have to go sometime. And devastating as it was, I think it did make the right ending to the series. Emotional and powerful and it just fitted in with everything else that was happening to Jack.
