  • as far as im concerned, this IS the normal mix.

  • this version so much more organic and true to their sound. Its not just about how loud the instruments are, its about dynamics, guitar to far right or far left, the atmosphere in this version is beautiful, you cannot hear it in the revised version. To best hear the difference, you have to wear headphones.

  • @madcap2003 Sir, I have just been informed of something called "Ben Bauer," he did research in making headphones sound more natural. All I'm saying is that listening to stuff in headphones sounds differently that on speakers. I'm making the assumption that the dudes in nirvana didn't sit in the recording studio and make critical judgements on the sound ... on a pair of headphones.

    SO..

    Yeah/.

  • @ilovethesechords Wrong, Thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard

  • Both of them are good :)

  • @bluejay55118 so what are you comparing your promo copy with? because comparing the two albums in mp3, it's obvious on almost every track the commercial release was more "sharp" and has less overall range. vocals are louder and have some crappy delay effect as well. either way, i highly prefer whatever my "albini mix". look into it.

i think what you should do is digitize your vinyl and share it.

  • @kennydoggins You may disagree with my opinion but, actually I am not wrong. i have a vinyl promo copy of the original Steve Albini mix.

  • @bluejay55118 you are wrong.

  • quiet LOUD quiet, this version is excellent

  • @bluejay55118 That's actually not entirely true. Scott Litt did remix the three singles (check out the "Walmart" version of Pennyroyal Tea, too), but they tweaked the levels of the mix in Mastering. Vocals were brought up on all songs and bass guitar was increased a bit as well. I'd add that, to my ears, the drums are the centerpiece in the Albini mix, whereas they sound compressed and less prominent on the official release. I like the Albini mixes, personally.

  • Wow, it doesn't sound like pop music.

  • i think the vox is toned down. Barely any chorus on the vox
