Hammer veneering, is an easy and adaptable method to apply veneer, and one that has almost no tooling cost. Adapted from a DVD on making an inlaid drawer, this video in two parts demonstrates hammer veneering a drawer front with crotch mahogany veneer.

  • Hi Rob,

Do you notice shrinkage of the veneers when you iron them down? I tried using plain yellow glue on both the veneer and substrate then ironing after they dry. I didn't like doing it that way because of veneer warping and shrinkage. I was wondering if the hide glue alleviates this problem.

I I believe the variable results I hear of, when using PVA glues and ironing, is because they are lack rigidity. Hide glue has a very rigid glue line, so shrinkage is not an issue.
