It all took place in San Ignacio Lagoon halfway down the Baja Peninsula on the Pacific side. It's here the mammoth gray whales come like clockwork each year to have their calves. The winter migration down the coast from Alaska is a journey of more than 5,000 miles one way and is one of the longest migrations made by any mammal.

And for some reason these huge gray whales, one of the oldest species on earth dating back at least 30 million years, actually seem to seek out and enjoy human contact once they reach the lagoon.

  • I love Huell Howser's love for whales and animals in general. He is a very generous and kindhearted man. I admire that.

  • Huell Howser is the Best Medicine for whatever ails so called, "modern society!"

  • haha, that's what she said XD

  • Huell's veins pump pure adrenaline.

  • Good thing Huel wasn't with a group of Japanese tourists...to his horror...they might pull out their harpoons and show Huel how they do it in Japan.

Huel...the big goof! He would have reached down to touch that whale if the guide hadn't told him not to...oh the adrinaline rush!

Whale watching tours like this are not good for the whales...they think it's okay to approach man, when nothing could be further from the truth.

  • I wish Heull Howser was my BEST Friend!

  • How dare that guy tell Huell not to touch the whale! Huell can do whatever the hell he wants! He's f-ing HUELL HOWSER!

  • @sweetea4u2 Well said.

  • This is one of my favorite episodes.

  • this entire episode is made for the blind....

  • i just watched this on tv and was amazed at how comfortable the whales were just hangin out and interacting with people

  • Close your eyes and tell me it doesn't sound like Huell is delivering a baby.
