Bay Area Communities Stand in Solidarity with Yemeni People

UN Plaza, 1150 Market Street, San Francisco

In the midst of the democratic peaceful movements in the Middle East, Yemen is going through a historic change. For the past 2 months, millions of Yemenis have been marching and demonstrating nonviolently to put an end to 33 years of dictatorship, poverty, oppression, and unemployment under the rule of Ali Saleh. The people of Yemen continue to make history, struggling to defend their country and demand a real end to their oppressive regime, following in the footsteps of their brothers and sisters in Tunisia and Egypt, and in tandem with other nations across the region.

With demonstrators in Yemen and the Arab World facing the iron fist of state repression, it is up to us to support these freedom seekers morally. The simple act of rallying for the same cause and making our voices heard to the international community will advance the struggle. Standing against oppression is the right of the people wherever they are.

After having a huge rally on March 26, Bay Area community members are taking to the streets to stand in solidarity with the people of Yemen as they continue to fight for regime change. We're expecting over a thousand people at the rally, including many diverse families with colorful signs and flags. People will attend from different parts of CA, including Fresno, Bakersfield, and Sacramento. There will be speakers and a moment of silence. We will hear from a few speakers and performers then march on Market St. as we chant slogans supporting the revolutions taking place in the Arab World. We will then return to the UN Plaza for more speakers.

Endorsed by the ANSWER collation, Amnesty International USA, Mosques throughout the Bay Area, the Yemeni Association of Central Valley, United National Antiwar Committee, and the International Socialist Organization, the Arab American Union Members Council, and many more Arab and Muslims organizations throughout the Bay Area.
