CC Cable Covering

In December 2011, ATP CablePlough (www.cableplough.co.uk) trialled CC13 Concrete Canvas (CC) as a protective cable cover for high voltage cables. CC is a flexible, concrete impregnated fabric that can be unrolled and wet to form a hard, fibre-reinforced protective concrete cover. In this trial, the CC is unrolled using equipment developed specifically for the material by ATP CablePlough in conjunction with their innovative trench-less cable laying technology. The system allows both the HV cable and the protective covering to be laid concurrently at a rate of 1000m/day. In 24 hours the CC13 sets and the concrete is reinforced by the 3-dimensional fibre-matrix which prevents crack propagation and provides excellent impact protection from accidental damage. The system provides significant labour and time savings over conventional plastic and precast concrete cable covers. The 200mm wide, CC13 (13mm thick) material has been tested to BS 2484:1985 (Appendix A) Impact Resistance for Straight concrete and clayware cable covers.
