Sgt. Shamar Thomas Detains Sen. Carl Levin Over NDAA

On day #1 of Occupy Congress, Sgt Shamar Thomas (of 1 Marine Vs. 30 Cops fame) joined forces with members of from both Occupations in DC and Occupy Wall Street in a protest inside of Senator Carl Levin's office today, "detaining" Sen. Levin... indefinitely for Co- Sponsoring the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
As Adam Serwer, writing for MotherJones explains it clearly,
"The administration had said that the military detention provisions of an earlier version of the NDAA were "inconsistent with the fundamental American principle that our military does not patrol our streets."
The revised NDAA is still inconsistent with that fundamental American principle. But the administration has decided that fundamental American principles aren't actually worth vetoing the bill over."

The action in Carl Levin's office today was planned by members of OWS and both Occupations in DC. The video was shot and edited by Dennis Trainor, Jr (activist, writer & documentary filmmaker)

Good for them. I disagree that this is a bad thing. The act of protesting takes many forms. As for Sgt. Thomas he has every right to be angry. He knows war and if he wants to express his feelings to those who are taking away what he fought for, good.

I support the sentiment, but live performances like that do not help the movement. Far better to air a refusal to have a serious conversation (or, albeit unlikely, an actual conversation) with your representatives and do the sketches properly in YouTube videos.
