The EWR VJ 101 was an experimental German jet fighter VTOL tiltjet aircraft. VJ stood for "Vertikal Jäger", (German for "Vertical Fighter"). It was to be the basis for a successor to the F-104G Starfighter, but was cancelled in 1968 after a five-year test program. The VJ 101 was one of the first V/STOL designs to have the potential for eventual Mach 2 flight.

  • @danich45

This is post WWII... but you are pretty much right although the USSR could've had jet fighters before Germany but Stalin belived the war will be won by regular air fighters and killed hes inventors.

Too bad no one bought that jet because it is a masterpiece

  • @djslickphd Right, could i have correct information on how to Get the VJ 101 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.

    For free.

  • @djslickphd Ok MR.Smartypants!

  • @danich45 Well this isn't WWII.

  • @djslickphd. I know, a lot of the things said in these documentaries are not true, but when I tried to change them they told me they were just trying to "simplify" the story for the viewers. What a crock!

  • if i remember it was also bassed on the lockhead star fighter body, im sure like most fighters they could of made changes to use it as a attack plane aswell

  • It was supersonic!

  • VJ stood for Versuchsjäger "Trial Fighter" not for Vertikal ;-)

  • political reasons. the vj101 was a pure fighter, but they wanted a multirole aircraft. So they developed the VFW VAK 191B vtol multirole fighter with italy. When italy left the project, germany cancelled it and joined the mrca project, which became later the Tornado aircraft.
