FRANCE IS THE 'GRANDE NATION' OF B-BOYING
French crew crowned world champions at the Braun Battle of the Year 2011 final in Montpellier, France.
20 crews, six hours of top rocks, freeze and power moves and a surprise/clear winner - the world's best b-boys came back to France for the second time to decide on the breakdancing world champion 2011. After an epic battle the nine-men crew from Paris sealed the world title in Montpellier on Saturday November 19, 2011. The final was a closely fought battle in front of frenzied crowd of 12,200 b-boy fans in which the local heroes had to dig deep and come out with a performance of their life. In the presence of 'Lost'-star Josh Holloway, onsite as part of a Hollywood production, the new title winners were announced in a sold out Park & Suites Arena shortly after midnight.
An epic night for participants as well as spectators reached fever pitch when the national French champions took the world title for the second time after 2006. After the six-minute crew choreographies only the best four made it to the semi finals: Nine State Bboys (JAP) vs. Battle Born (USA) and TPEC (TWN) vs. Vagabonds (FRA).
The Vagabonds seized their home field advantage perfectly and in a final 20-minute crew battle defeated the American crew Battle Born with an incredible performance. "It's great, we are so excited! We won the Battle of the Year for the last time in 2006; this is for us a great come back. Winning in front of our home crowd makes this night even more special", stated the ecstatic French crew in a first interview. Some serious footwork and a great choreography in their show performance secured them also the prize for the best show.
"They had energy, control and precision. They seemed relaxed and kept their smiles. A lot of crews feel the pressure and pull out all their guns and that doesn't work; but Vagabonds looked at ease and I'm happy that Battle Born made the final", was Poe One's reasoning for the French victory. The well-experienced judge from the United States critiqued the crews' synchronicity, stage presence, choreography as well as b-boying moves besides Lilou (FRA), Taisuke (JAP), Crazy (SUI) and Spanish b-girl Movie One.
Damn! this sh*t was crazy, everybody was on point with no screw ups at all!
