From EFL Classroom:
I spent time this morning talking to Dr. Richard Wallace. He's the guru of "bots", computerized robots that can talk back. It's a long story but our Dave Bot will die on June 30th. Unless we can find a sponsor who'll get "Supporter" ads here ( http://eflclassroom.ning.com/index.php ) and also on our Dave Bot public page:
http://eflclassroom.com/bot.html
Our only option is to transfer the bot to the pandorasbot host:
http://bandore.pandorabots.com:8008/subscription/index.html
Can you help send this message out and maybe it will reach someone who wants to keep this great educational tool alive?
thanks...

I completely agree, and also find it refreshing to see that there is someone else on the internet who actually knows how to write in English, without the use of unnecessary abbreviations and constant misspelling of easily spelled words. I actually enjoyed reading your comment, so thank you for posting it.

Responses like "Are all dave me dying?" and "To Are we still talking about dying" don't help students learn English-- unless you want them to learn it incorrectly. Furthermore, hearing a computer-generated voice does not give students exposure to naturally flowing speech with accurate inflections and allophonic variations. I'm afraid it looks like your students are better off without this grammatically flawed chat program. As a Linguist, it's my opinion that Dave does more harm than good.
