NAMTA Foundation Grant for Charlotte County Schools

Dear NAMTA Foundation,

Yesterday was an amazing day for Charlotte County School Teachers. With the NAMTA Foundation's help, we had a wonderful inservice for Reading and Language Arts Teachers to learn to integrate the arts into their curriculum.

The day began with our Reading specialist incorporating ideas and strategies for writing about art, using art for stories and project based learning, and a book walk through The Renaissance Classroom, a book about arts integration in the classroom . The second half of the day included a Kennedy Center consultant showing teachers how to use watercolor pencils, oil pastels, and brushes. The consultant also gave the teachers confidence to create artwork and find their own personal artistry. Each teacher walked away from the day with enough supplies for their entire class and a manual to help them integrate art into their curriculum.

The NAMTA Foundation grant is a huge part of the success of the inservice. The money from the grant allowed us to purchase class sets of water color pencils and oil pastels. The books and consultants were paid for through Professional Development funds. The teachers were so focused on creating work and they truly enjoyed becoming art supply consumers! It was pointed out that students will be just as focused and motivated in the classroom!
