I used to play ActiveWorlds way back in the day. I was a frequent visitor of the old AWGames and was saddened when I returned almost 10 years later to find it deserted and the layout changed. It used to be a lively awesome glass network suspended above an infinte ocean, thriving with people all the time. Now it's just a deserted ghost island.

@mimosa27 I found the song! After 13 years of seraching nonstop. It is a midi version of the Gin Blossoms "Found out About you" which was on the list of songs played on the AW Gateway in 1997.

@atrocity3010 alot of people still play it.

Ahh... the nostalgia... I will never forget my time when I was there as a Teenager at the turn of the century, literally spending hours each week on Active Worlds building and chatting with others. I immensely loved playing on ActiveWorlds back then. Times have changed though, the user base has diminished considerably, It feels eerily devoid of people, and the AW Community Liaison has gone M.I.A. Still, I’ll never forget the fun times I had there

@Slikhedgehog I have some of that music!

AW... When we first got the internet when I was 10 or 11... I forget now, I found this game and spent the next few years exploring and building and making friends. AW still exists... but it's nothing like it used to be back in the day, the community is only small dedicated people now and it has long lost it's charm. But it will always have a place in my heart.

@stover0107 I still have fond memories of AW though and I do realize there is still the tourist option but there isn't a point anymore. The same thing goes for second life, I'm not dropping $50 on a fake coat when I can buy a real coat for less or the same.

I really don't like how they changed aw. Going from $20 a year to $60 a MONTH is an INSANE price increase, considering a majority of the growing community was teenagers no one wanted (or could) pay that. Also they changed their basic building blocks to more prefab elements leaving the art of building in the dust. Not to mention customer support/education inquiry is not there/horrible because I tried to get my own universe. They are charging something like over 5k for software licensing.

I used to sit up long nights with a friend of mine and build stuff in AlphaWorld back in 96-97 something.. I think the coords were 855n 485w.. havent been there since, might actually have a look at it sometime just for remembering the good old days where there werent many "have to"'s :)
Also what is the music in this video, it's peaceful and reminds me of AW.

@AnimeCrazzy it was popular at the time in AW and I found it as a compilation of AW midis. I saved some of my favorites to a disk somewhere...

@mimosa27 Could I ask you a huge favour? Could you please please send me your AW music. I've been searching for music from the AW Gateway for 11 years (since the 1990s).

@Slikhedgehog Hey :) I will look for this tune, I believe I burned it onto a cd. You can also use this search string on the internet "stheme5.mid". You will find what you're looking for in crude midi form. (AW midis will be bundled together under similar file names!)
