Patents, copyright, lawyers ... all part of the biggest industries on this planet: MILITARISM. Bullying each other as stupid animals, using weaponry called Legal English (as Linus tries to define it), provides so much guaranteed employment in the USA, that hard & soft engineering has almost stopped.
I'm speaking as an ex-Officer in the Australian army (1969-72).
