Athletic Tina Noyes made an effort all year long to land the first (American) ladies triple toe loop, but it never quite worked out. (Petra Burka of Canada had just done a triple salchow a few years earlier 63 - but the ladies had been slow to add the 3 rotations). She was very much in the running for a Bronze medal here, but it would have required a strong skate. She started out wonderfully, but then just fizzled on the triple attempt, and it began to be difficult after that.

A Boston skater in the athletic tradition of Carol Heiss and Petra Burka, she challenged graceful Peggy Fleming in the 1960's. I found it interesting to see her tap the next skater on the shoulder, and wish her well as she came off the ice. You see very few examples of sportsmanship like that these days........

  • Hana Maškova's skating was so much better than this one and she was rewarded by the bronze medal according to her deserts. Hana was very graceful and elegant on ice, and her grace didn't resemble the grace of Fleming, she had her own style and her own beauty. I think that Tina in spite of all her capacities didn't have a style which could mark her out of other skaters.

  • @lamarin777 Yes, I would have to agree about that......I implied she was in the running for a Bronze, but would have needed not only the triple toe loop, but for Hanna to not skate well also.......it would be very hard for a judge to mark down the beautifully leggy Moscova........The certainly made a beautiful podium Fleming in green, Gaby in Blue, and Hanna in pink with white fur....a lovely and satisfying moment, best wishes

  • Finally a video of Tina Noyes, a great skater! Thank you!!!!!!

  • @twilliger123 Glad to do it! It was an exciting period of American skating....and she was a very important part of it.........and continued to influence skating as a coach. best wishes

  • Interesting that the color of her dress is so close to the color of Peggy's. Hmmmmm

  • @EightballRus Yes, I noticed that too........must have been a popular color at the time.....best wishes

  • @k9henrydog mmmmmm....she was a savvy competitor. I think it was a political move more then a "popular color" concept. ;-)
