Description

Beautiful Japanese plate decorated with the painted image of a blue carp fish. Carp are called koi in Japan where they are admired not only for their ability to beautify the otherwise austere Japanese garden in koi ponds, but also for their famed strength and tenacity. Asian philosophers are fond of noting that the carp will always battle his way upstream, overcoming incredible obstacles and dangers. One ancient Chinese legend even tells of a carp fish which was transformed into a celestial dragon after reaching the fountainhead of a famous river.
