METI Learning, located just off I-75 in Sarasota, has played a major role in changing how medical schools teach their students. METI manufactures and markets some of the most sophisticated human patient simulators in the world. Today medical students in 90% of U.S. Medical Schools train on METI robots that breath, blink, scream, and bleed. METI robots allow medical students to diagnose and treat a myriad of symptoms without risking patient safety. The technology behind METI was first developed at the University of Florida College of Medicine by Dr. Joachim S. "Nik" Gravenstein - the late founder of UF's Anesthesiology department. The University of Florida continues to receive royalties from METI for licensing the technology. There are plans to add 40 additional jobs in Sarasota to METI's current workforce of 220 later this year.
