Not long after mid day on Saturday 5 December 2009 LNER designed A4 streamlined Pacific 60019 "Bittern" hauled The Cathedrals Express railtour west from Gloucester. This tour had started from London Victoria and could have reached South Wales through the Severn Tunnel. However, as this was closed for engineering work, Sir Nigel Gresley's 4-6-2 was forced to go west through Gloucester amid a great deal of similarly diverted service trains, including the First Great Western HST which blocked my view of its start from Platform 4. However, the wheelslip on the severe gradient just west of Gloucester station was very apparent - and even a Great Western 4-6-0 would have to be driven with care on this incline!

  • Gentlemen, thank you very much for your kind comments. That HST certainly did get in the way but such is life. Incidentally, on A5Videos footage I a the one with the small camera held up with both hands and , embarrasingly, the male pattern baldness. I'll wear a hat next time!
