About the game:
This is my take on a tried and true game mechanic: the arcade space shooter. I produced versions of this game twice in college: once in Winter 2006 using GameMaker and once again in Fall 2007 using QE, my professor's engine. Both times, due to time limitations, I was only able to complete demos instead of a full game, so this time I decided to sit down and make a full game using the same mechanic from scratch using my engine (http://youtube.com/watch?v=wwApDRt0vLI ).
Basic gameplay:
• Fly a spaceship, shoot things
• If it moves, kill it before it kills you
• Collect items for bonuses
• Don't die
The whole thing took me about a month, and I did everything - programming, design, art, sound, and music. The design is pretty simple; I'm sure everyone has played a game like this at least once. But even simple games take some time to develop.
I purposely die every so often so the video doesn't run too long, which is why I get low bonuses at the end of the level - I lose all my coins. Even so, this game is kind of hard. I have a hard time getting past level 4 (there are five levels, of which you see three here).
The video response to this is a music video I made for the background soundtrack.
