@songbird71795 It's actually quite close to the parody by french humorists "Les Inconnus" ; you can find excerpts of it here with english subtitles : youtube.com/watch?v=Cegf3mR3qG

@ToBeFree32 Eponine was supposed to be ugly, she was poor and missing some teeth, so it said. I cried at the parts of Eponine and Fantine in the book. I also sobbed at the death of Enjolras and Grantaire. And then there was the end of the novel itself, which was completely heart breaking. The Liam Neeson version took it all away. Fantine was an Americanized whore, I can never say I felt bad for her at any time. Enjolras, Eponine, and Grantaire are removed. And the end never actually happened.

@TheOnlyMissLaurey i agree with allthemusic. The 1998 is pretty bad. The characters are overdramazied, they take out my two fav characters, Eponine, Enjolras. I think they did the characters badly in the other one. Cosette was a stuck up bitch, like atm said, lol atm. Javert was a complete evil bad guy, that's not realistic. The Thenardiers were as good as removed. Fantine was an ugly whore, I felt no pity for her. And then Gavroche was an annoying little kid. Plus, the movie was Americanized

@allthemusic111 (Continued) Enjolras is all that is honourable and valiant and brave - I applaud him for fighting for what he believes in. I think Cosette is more naive than anything, not necessarily bitchy. Other than Thernardier, there is no "bad guy" in this story. Both Javert and Valjean believe they are doing the right thing. Valjean is protecting those he loves, and Javert is attempting to keep the law - both men are right. Javert dies because he cannot comprehend grace.

@allthemusic111 I appreciate your viewpoint, but I politely disagree. Yes, the Liam Neeson film is shorter and hence less back story on people, but the characters are far more realistic and the relationships less disturbing. Eponine is my favourite character in the whole story (aside from Valjean of course) and I love the way she is developed in the musical. (Continued)
I don't believe he ever did love Fantine it was more a deep pity derived from his magnanimous nature surely. I don't think there is any sexual love in the book at all, Hugo even ensures that one doesn't look at Marius' and Cosette's love in that way until the very end. xXx
