  • Interesting ep . Holliman was good in this role and his bit with Sam & Kitty was one of the more intense scenes in the series. Sam was also good in Deadman's Law and The Nightriders, if anyone wants to check. Also, Dwight said that Morgan Woodward was not usually such a character in a Gunsmoke (or anything) but did once play a nervous type in a minor role in a Gunsmoke when it just became colour, around 67, not sure of the ep name though. I prefer later eps, more characterizations.

  • @trapper2 Know that other episode, the one where Morgan plays a Nervous Nelly type.Is "The Hanging",and it is from the first Gunsmoke color season.Theres another one, where he plays like a stuffed shirt executive type, from the following season.Might post that one on here before long.

  • Thanks for posting this. I absolutely love Earl Holliman but he's kind of scary in this episode. I read somewhere (I think in a Morgan Woodward interview) that, to begin with, Morgan Woodward was supposed to play Hackett and Earl Holliman was supposed to play Quinton. A couple of weeks before taping they switched them. Don't know if that is accurate, but it's kind of interesting. . Anyway, a pretty intense episode.

  • @bartslady Glad you like it.Thanks for the information. Can see the possibility of the role switch,is pretty unusual for Morgan Woodward to play a scared to death coward in a Gunsmoke episode.

  • jake flagg in return to dodge 1987 is who hackett is

  • Great episode. I wonder why the idiot on imdb gave it such a bad review. Earl Holliman did a great job.

  • I didn't know the guy playing Sam was that old. Born in 1899 Same as my grandma.. And I thought Doc was the old fart on the show. LOL

  • nothin like a man standing up and exercising a little backbone to raise his confidence level

  • The unloaded shotgun scene was pretty intense, done by true thesbians

  • emmjay8- ditto on Sam, I wish he would have been given more air time, I think everyone took to him, it's funny "they" didn't get that feedback and go with it. But yea Sam was a good one.
