Segmental Scleral Buckle for Retinal Detachment

This patient had a retinal detachment with symptoms of a creeping shadow for about a week. The examination showed that some components of the retinal detachment were old. Because of the configuration of the detachment, with a single break at 7:00, it was decided to reattach the retina with a segmental scleral buckle.

@AsiMov18 yes, in my case it will be a good eye again. i had this done in 1978. i was 10 years old. my right eye, the one with the detached retina has better vision than my left eye. although having as history of having detached retina surgery kept me out of the armed forces. a major disappointment in my young life.

i had an RD operation twice, because the "buckle"

detached on my first operation after 1 month,,,

after a week, i had an operation again and it's been

a month now. they injected silicon oil.

My questions are...

what are the chances for the "buckle" to be detached again?

(what activities might possibly trigger in detaching it?)

is the buckle secured from its attachment after a few months?

Lastly, would it be a "good eye" again and be used along with the unaffected eye?

Great ... shouldn't medicine get to a point to prevent something like that ? Have big retinal problems but the doctors can do and say nothig ... maybe the situation in the US is different, but here in germany, the ophtalmologic treatment is really like in the stone age. No modern equipment, not enough or well trained doctors and theories and treatments from back in the 60s .... really, that sucks

I had retinal detachment in the two eyes.

In one they had to do scleral buckling with a 360º buckle, in the other eye was an 180º buckle.

But the eye with 180º buckle got scleral necrosis and the doctor had to take the buckle off 3 weeks later
